Sierra Club targets natural gas as `dirty, dangerous' Page 1 of 1
Public Power Daily
Thursday, March 29, 2012
Sierra Club targets natural gas as `dirty, dangerous'
The natural gas industry "is dirty, dangerous and putting American families at risk," Siena Club
Executive Director Michael Brune said in an editorial in USA Today. "The only safe, smart and
responsible way to address our nation's energy needs is to look beyond coal, oil and gas, and focus on
clean, efficient energy sources such as wind, solaz and geothermal," he said. The editorial cited the
risks of fracking and "the lack of effective oversight for an industry run amok."
The environrnental group had made news with its recent disclosure that it accepted $26 million in
donations from individuals and subsidiaries of Chesapeake Energy for its "Beyond Coal" campaign
before deciding in 2010 to turn down further donations from fossil fuel companies or executives.
Copyngh[ O 2012, American Public Power Asswiatlon
http://www.naylometwork.com/app-ppd/articles/print-V2.asp?aid=171859 3/29/2012
