Park & Recreation Commission Mmutes Page 2 September 14, 2011 4. en Mike -None 5. Volunteer of the Month Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit presented Roger Holm as the Volunteer of the Month. 6. Recreation Manager's Report -Steve Benoit Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared the Elk River Senior Center and Ice Arena reports. Mr. Benoit reported that staff is transitioning into fall programming as well as planning for the upcoming winter activities. Mr. Benoit shared that the Fall Flag Football program was so popular that it quickly reached its capacity and a large waiting list. Staff was able to create a second class offering which maxed out as well. Mr. Benoit also shared other department updates. First, that Michael Hecker had been hired as the new Parks and Recreation Director and second, that the Recreation Division was in the process of creating a timeline for moving offices form Lions Park Center to City Hall. Action/Discussion Items 7.1. Policy Issues 7.1.A. cleanER Program Rebecca Haug, Environmental Administrator presented a new program initiative cleanER Program which would follow the same guidelines as the Adopt-a-Park program Ms. Haug shared that the program would be an umbrella program containing, Adopt-a-Storm Pond, Adopt-a-Wetland, Adopt-a- Neighborhood and Adopt-a-Park The program will be marketed as one program but will be coordinated by two different divisions; Parks and Recreation will continue to coordinate the Adopt-a- Parkand the Environmental Division will coordinate the stone ponds, wetlands and neighborhood adoptions. If the citywere to get a vohmteer coordinator, it recommends having this position handle the coordination of the cleanER Program Ms. Haug explained that this program directly relates to the 2011-2012 Council adopted goal of Beautification. Commissioner Nystrom asked if this program would include plantings and flowers.
