From:
iver
Police Department Subject:

Memorandum
Mayor and City Council

Thomas D. Zerwas, Chief of Police '~. I
February 17, 1998

WAGE/BENEFIT PACKAGE FOR ASSISTANT CHIEF

In regards to the wage and benefit package for the Assistant Chief's position, I make the
following recommendations:

1. WAGES - At the top step of Level 4E ($56,676,44)

SICK LEAVE - Start with fifteen (15) days in the bank. He wouldn't earn any additional
sick time until his sixteenth (16th) month of employment with the City.

VACATION- Start at the seventh (7th) year of accrual on the vacation schedule. This
would be three (3) weeks of vacation per year. He would then receive increases on
vacation as per the vacation schedule. This would increase to the nine (9) year step in two
(2) years fi.om date of hire. This is something that we have done in the past for three (3)
police patrol officers.

TAKE HOME CAR - Jeff is requesting a take home ear. This is very common for second
in command positions. This was authorized for Sergeant Tyler when he lived in Big Lake
several years ago. It is allowed in the cities of Anoka, Champlin, Coon Rapids, and many
others.

UNIFORM ALLOWANCE - As per the current uniform allowance policy for other police
officers.

All other benefits would be the same as any city employee would receive.

TDZ/kma

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
