Item # 6.2.
MEMORANDUM
. -
l~V+~~"
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM: Michael Hecker, Parks and Recreation Director
DATE: December 5, 201 I
SUBJECT: 2012 Bank of Elk River Sponsorship
The Bank of Elk River will be making a presentation at the December 5 City Council meeting regarding
the $14,000 in donation funds they have committed to the City of Elk River in support of 2012 Parks and
Recreation Department community events. At the October 17 City Council meeting, the Council
approved the benefits to be included in The Bank of Elk River sponsorship which are summarized below.
As in prior years, The Bank of Elk River will be the exclusive sponsor of the Riverfront Concert Series,
Kidstock, Chalk It Up, and the Elk River Farmers' Market. In addition, The Bank will continue to be a
participating sponsor of all other Parks and Recreation managed community events, such as Fright Night
and the Hillside Single Track Attack Mountain Bike State Race.
The 2012 Bank of Elk River sponsorship will include additional benefits. While adding minimal cost to
the city, these additional benefits add value to the sponsorship and will enhance the collaborative efforts to
benefit the community. The additional benefits include:
1. A dedication plaque recognizing The Bank of Elk River for the Riverfront Concert Series at Rivers
Edge Commons Park.
2. The possibility of moving the Farmers' Market currently held at the Westbound Liquor store
parking lot to downtown will be explored. Staff will work with the Planning Department in
seeking the best location for the market downtown (if such location is possible).
3. The Bank of Elk River logo will be added to youth league program t-shirts. Underneath the initial
t-shirt design, it would state in small print Proud Sponsor that will be above The Bank of Elk River
logo.
4. A geocaching program will be offered to the community. This program will enhance the
"Powered by Nature" brand that will bring benefit to the community by using technology and
combining it with the outdoors. The program will be designed to bring people to The Bank of Elk
River and educate the people about Elk River's entire 44 park system.
N:\Public Bodies\City Council\Counal RCA\Agenda Packet\12-05-2011\Bank Sponsorship.docx
