213.01 <br /> <br />ASSISTANT CHIEF <br /> <br />1 2 <br /> <br />12-97 All Personnel <br /> <br />213.01 <br /> <br />PURPOSE <br /> <br />To provide a job description for the position of Assistant Chief. <br /> <br />GENERAL <br /> <br />Under the direction of the Police Chief; supervises the overall law <br />enforcement operations of all Elk River Police Department employees. <br /> <br />DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES <br /> <br />1.) <br /> <br />Appointed as acting chief and serve in this capacity in the Police <br />Chief's absence. <br /> <br />2.) <br /> <br />Ensures department goals are met by managing, coordinating, <br />directing and evaluating staff activities. <br /> <br />3.) <br /> <br />Ensures an efficient operation, job safety and staff development by <br />reviewing, regulating and training personnel. <br /> <br />4.) <br /> <br />Responsible for overall public relations activities including media <br />relations and public speaking. <br /> <br />5.) <br /> <br />Respond to public inquiries to ensure good public relations are <br />maintained. <br /> <br />6.) <br /> <br />Coordinate and implement Community Policing activities in the <br />City of Elk River. <br /> <br />7.) Overall responsibility for Intemal Affairs Investigations. <br /> <br />8.) <br /> <br />Conducts inspections of department property to ensure everything <br />is in working order. <br /> <br /> <br />
