Appoint Mike Cunningham as the School District representative to the Ice Arena Commission to <br />fulfill Mr. Barth's unexpired term until February 28, 2013. <br />B. Appoint Tim Rybak to the Energy City Commission to serve as the School District representative <br />for athree-year term to expire February 28, 2014. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />Ice Arena Commission <br />John Barth served as the School District representative to the Ice Arena Commission until his retirement <br />from the District in 2011. The District's new Athletic Director Mike Cunningham has applied to fill Mr. <br />Barth's position on the Ice Arena Commission. <br />Energy City Commission <br />Ordinance designates that one representative to the Energy City Commission will be designated by <br />Independent School District #728. The School District representative position on the Energy City <br />Commission is currently vacant. Tim Ryback, Operations Manager for the Elk River School District, has <br />expressed an interest in serving as the District's representative on the Commission and has been regularly <br />attending meetings. <br />Interviewing <br />In the past, the Council has chosen to appoint representatives designated by ordinance (ie: school district) <br />without interviewing. <br />Staff has received one application for the Heritage Preservation Commission vacancy. Past practice has <br />been to interview all new applicants, with the exception of those designated by ordinance as discussed <br />above.
