What did you buy?
Webuilt atwo-story, three-bedroom house - 3,900 square feet with lots of windows - on 1.8 acres with
200 feet of lakeshore.
How did you like it there?
It's a good fishing lake, and we see a lot of nature on it. We boat on it, and you can water ski and do
water sports. We also liked Big Lake's very nice public beach and public access. We've been very happy
with the school district there and the friendships we've had. You're not far from cities, yet you still can see
the stars and you don't have the city traffic. It's very family-oriented; in Lake City, we've not found as
many young families, and Big Lake offers children's sports at younger ages.
Why did you leave, and why are you coming back?
Dave had gotten a position at Wild Wings, near Lake City. But after several months, he got an opportunity
to return to the floral-delivery industry and work out of our home. Our house in Big Lake had not sold yet,
so we were able to sell this house [in Lake City] and move back. We just miss the lake and lake living.
Lake City is gorgeous, but there's no lakeshore property. We realized that's what we always wanted.
Neal Gendler is at ngendler@startribune.com.
Big Lake
Total number of sales: 746*
Dollar volume: $102,335,036
Average list price: $249,891
Median list price: $229,900
Average sale price: $214,989
Median sale price: $192,000
Low sale price: $109,000
High sale price: $725,000
Average days on the market: 61.5
Active listings: 189
*From 4/1/04 to 3/31/05
Source: Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors, based on information from the Regional Multiple
Listing Service of Minnesota Inc.
Recent home sales: Big Lake
- Built in 1984, this house has three bedrooms and slower-level family room.
