Appendix E: Relevant News Articles (cont.) <br />Victory Sports Bar & Restaurant opens in Big Lake Marketplace <br />By Jennifer Edwards, Staff Writer <br />Article appeared in the April 22, 2006 issue of fhe West Sherburne Newspaper, Big Lake, MN <br />VICTORY GRILL AND BAR is the first business to open its doors in the Big Lake Marketplace <br />Victory Sports Grill and Bar opened their doors in the Big Lake Marketplace Monday after a ribbon <br />cutting ceremony with the Big Lake Chamber of Commerce. The first customers to come through <br />the door were Tom Hauge, Mike Nyman and Kate Severson. <br />"We helped to build it," Hauge said. "So of course, we had to come and try the food." <br />The new smoke-free restaurant with a vintage sports theme is decorated in maroon and gold <br />Gopher colors. One wall is covered with 1,640 baseballs and a bleachers area, complete with <br />chain link fence, which separates the bar from the restaurant. Part of the dining room features a <br />football floor covering and some of the door handles are made from baseball bats. <br />"The architects were very creative and imaginative," said Ron Ulven, who owns the restaurant with his <br />wife Deanna and son, Mark. <br />"It has shaped up beautifully," says Dale Vogl of First Federal Savings Bank. "It has really come together <br />very nicely." <br />"This is a family-owned restaurant and we wanted the place to be appealing to families," said Ron. The <br />Ulven's son Rob is also working at the restaurant as floor manager in charge of promotions. <br />He designed their logo. "We are very pleased with our location," said Rob. "Being right on Hwy. 10, we <br />may not have to do much promotion." <br />Diners can choose to watch Kitchen Manager John Kunze and his staff prepare their food through a <br />large glass window as they enjoy the family friendly ambience. <br />"We created the menu to fit the area," Kunze said. "We have something to appeal to everybody, including <br />a children's menu. All our steaks are hand-cut and fresh, never frozen." <br />A Kirby cut, 10 ounce sirloin is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Other menu items include pasta, Mexican <br />dishes, shrimp, fish and salads, the house special chicken wild rice soup and delicious desserts. All <br />menu items are also available to take-out.You can call (763) 263-5555 to place an order. <br />"We had a very positive response at our Saturday VIP night," sys General Manager Mark Christensen. <br />"We want people to remember our food and our service." <br />The restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on <br />Sundays. "We serve Sunday brunch from 9 a.m to 2 p.m." Christensen said.
