United Healthcare Services Inc. is buying 17 acres of land next to the Sherburne
County Government Center.
The company has plans to construct a technology and data center on the site, which sits just north of
more than 21 acres the county sold to Target Corp. last year. The county board voted unanimously
Tuesday to approve the sale.
The land will cost United Health a little more than $1.5 million, said County Administrator Brian Bensen.
The two parcels were part of 76 acres the county initially bought for $5 million to expand the Government
Center. The leftover property will be used for that addition, Bensen said.
When the county purchased the land, commissioners "directed us to make sure we return some of it to
the tax rolls quickly," Bensen said. Using profits from the two land sales, the county will have enough
money to pay off the entire property, Bensen said.
The company expects to begin building once the sale is final and permits are approved, he said.
United Healthcare Services is a unit of Minnetonka-based UnitedHealth Group Inc., the nation's second-
largest health insurer.
(© 2006 The Associated Press.
