Paxk & Recreation Commission Minutes <br />June 8, 2011 <br />Page 2 <br />Mr. Benoit reported shared that a new program was held in May; Ladies Night at <br />Hillside Paxk City Paxk. This event gave participants a chance to ride the trails <br />regardless of their experience or ability. <br />Mr. Benoit reported that the City of Otsego would like to explore the concept of <br />working with the City of Elk River in delivering recreational programs to Otsego <br />resident. <br />Mx. Benoit discussed the following department updates; park facilities damaged by <br />hail, replacement of the fishing dock at Lake Orono and the re-Tamping of the lights <br />at Orono Athletic Complex. <br />Action/Discussion Items <br />7.1. Policv Issues <br />7.1.A. Major Park Use ~uly 4`h Celebration at Lions Park <br />Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit shared that the Elk River American Legion has <br />requested the use of Lions Park fox a community 4"' of July celebration. <br />4`" of July Committee Chao, Jim Boyle; 1108 196`h Ave. Elk River, shared that this <br />years event would be similar to last years event with many improvements. <br />4`h of July Program Chair, Jill Griffiths; 18323 Tyler St. Elk River, shared the line up <br />of programs and entertainment that will happen through out the day. <br />Commissioner I{arisen shared his concern for the number of people attending and it <br />creating a traffic jam. <br />Mx. Boyle stated that the park really doesn't fill in until later at night and the number <br />given also includes people watching from the surrounding area such as Salk fields. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER JAKER AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER NYSTROM TO ACCEPT STAFF <br />RECOMMENDATIONS OF WAIVING RENTAL FEES, PARKS AND <br />RECREATION DEPARTMENT PROVIDE TRASH CANS AND RENTAL <br />GROUP PROVIDE PORTABLE TOILTES AT GROUPS' EXPENSE. <br />MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER JAKER AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER NYSTROM TO AMEND THE FIRST MOTION. <br />ACCEPT STAFF RECOMMENDATIONS ALONG WITH WORKING <br />WITHIN THE LAWS AND RULES PERMIT AND SPECIFY THE <br />HOURS. MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br />
