-i ,~j <br />City of <br />R~.v~r <br />TO: City Council <br />MEMORANDUM <br />FROM: Bob Thistle, Interim City Administrator <br />DATE: September 6, 201 1 <br />SUBJECT: Park and Recreation Director Interviews <br />ITEM. 2. <br />We have prepared an active schedule for our two park and recreation director candidates for <br />Tuesday, September 6, 2011. Each will spend about an hour on a tour of our parks and <br />recreation facilities with Chief Rolfe. We have also arranged for each of them to spend <br />about an hour with each of two groups of city staff. One group will consist of the park and <br />recreation division managers and the other group is department heads and members of the <br />management team. Each candidate will end their day interviewing with the City Council. <br />The first candidate you will be meeting with is Michael Hecker. Michael has over 21 years of <br />experience in municipal government and nonprofit organizations. For the past eleven years, <br />Michael has been the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Mason in Ohio. Prior to <br />the City of Mason, Michael was the Parks, Culture and Recreation Director for the City of <br />Unalaska in Alaska for four and a half years and Executive Director for the Old Greenwich <br />Riverside Community Center for seven years. Michael holds a degree in Operations and <br />Systems Analysis with a minor in Accounting/Economics and a master's degree in <br />Recreation Administration. <br />The second candidate you will be meeting with is Tim Webber. Tim has been the Executive <br />Director of the Western Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District in Rangely <br />Colorado since 2005 and has been in the parks and recreation field for the past 25 years. In <br />addition to his current position, Tim was the Parks and Recreation Director for the Charter <br />Township of Comstock Michigan for nine years, the Program Supervisor of Youth and. <br />Adult Programs for the Owatonna Minnesota Parks and Recreation Department for ten <br />years, and Temporary Recreation Supervisor for the Lakeville Minnesota Parks and <br />Recreation Department during his tenure with Owatonna. Tim holds a degree in Recreation <br />Parks and Leisure Services with an emphasis in Leisure Planning and Management with a <br />minor in Corrections. <br />
