REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ci Council 6.5. <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br />Consent September 6, 2011 Lauren Wipper, Human Resource <br /> Re resentative <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br />Authorization to Hire a Street Laborer Mark Thompson, Assistant Street <br /> Su erintendent <br /> REVIEWED BY (~ <br />~~ <br />~1 <br /> - <br />Robert Thistle, Interim City <br /> Administrator <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Approve the hiring of Chris Teff as street division Laborer at step A of pay grade 2. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />At the July 18, 2011 City Council meeting, staff was authorized to begin the hiring process to fill a <br />Laborer position for the street division. <br />The City received 57 applications and interviewed the top five candidates. A background check and <br />reference checks have been completed and staff recommends hiring Chris Teff for this position. Mr. <br />Teff has been working for an excavating company for the past ten years and is excited to begin his career <br />with the City. <br />Mr. Teff would start at step A of pay grade 2. After 6 months of employment, he would be eligible for <br />any cost of living increase given to non-union employees and a step increase dependent upon satisfactory <br />performance. Mr. Teff would be eligible for his next step increase on July 1, 2013. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The savings from the street superintendent's phased retirement will fund this position.
