REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ma or and Ci Council 3.3. <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br />Consent Au st 15, 2011 Ca fain Bob Kluntz <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED B~/ <br />Out-of State Travel for Police Department Robert Thistle, Interim City <br /> Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Council approval of the police department's request to send Detective Eric Balabon to an out-of--state <br />training course. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />The police department would like to send Detective Eric Balabon to a seminar located in Orlando, <br />Florida, from September 18 - 23. The seminar is related to his assignment as the department liaison to <br />the State Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The seminar, entitled ICAC- <br />Investigation Techniques, is not offered locally, so an in-state course is not an option. <br />This course is required for our continued relationship with ICAC and deals with the topics of: legal <br />issues of ICAC investigations, case organization techniques, proactive investigations, crime scene <br />response and management, as well as suspect interrogation. Detective Balabon has received confirmation <br />that he has been accepted for participation, so the only remaining question is Council approval. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT <br />The tuition, airfare, and lodging are all paid for by a federal grant, the only expense to the City would be <br />for meals. The maximum reimbursement for meals at an out-of state conference is $45.00 per day; <br />including travel days the maximum meal reimbursement would be $270.00.
