Elk' REQUEST FOR ACTION
River
To Item Number
Ci Council ~„~,
Agenda Section Meeting Date Prepared by
Administration August 15, 2011 Ross Pomeroy, GreenCorps Member
& Environmental Intern
Item Description Reviewed by
Consider cleanER Program Rebecca Hau ,Environmental Admin.
Reviewed by
Robert Thistle, Interim City
Administrator
Action Requested
Council motion to approve the cleanER program.
Background/Discussion
The cleanER program would be an umbrella program that contains the following programs:
^ Adopt a Park
^ Adopt a Storm Pond
^ Adopt a Wetland
^ Adopt a Neighborhood
cleanER would follow the same guidelines as the Adopt a Park program currently run under the Parks
and Recreation Department (see attached brochure).
Differences/Additions/Work for cleanER program
^ New marketing materials would be created in house and dispersed through current
communication tools such as the newsletter, social media, website, volunteer resources, etc.
^ Parks and Recreation will continue to coordinate and track volunteer activities for Adopt a Park.
^ Environmental Division will begin to coordinate and track volunteer activities for storm pond
and wetland adoptions.
Parks and Recreation will be notified about participants in the storm pond and wetland program
because they will provide all of the benefits of the recognition certificates, signage at the site, and
acknowledgement on the website.
One item to note is that cleanER will be marketed as one program but will be coordinated by two
different divisions. If the city gets a volunteer coordinator, it would be recommended to have this person
handle the coordination of the cleanER program. Parks staff and the Parks and Recreation Chair assisted
with the concept for this new program. It will be brought to the Parks and Recreation Commission as
information at a future date.
Visioning Consideration
