Existing Conditions <br />Within the City of Elk River there are approximately 8,710 total residential units. Of <br />these units, approximately 3,969 are connected to the sanitary sewer system and <br />4,201 units are served by on-site septic system. There are approximately 542 non- <br />residential services that are connected to regional sewer. These non-residential <br />services include schools, churches, commercial development, industrial <br />development and parks. <br />The wastewater generated from the City is diverted to the sanitary sewer collection <br />system and directed to the City's Wastewater Treatment Facility (WWTF) located <br />between TH 10 and the Burlington Northern Rail Line, north of the Great River <br />Energy plant. Treated wastewater from Elk River's WWTF is discharged to the <br />Mississippi River. The WWTF has a current average day treatment capacity of 2.2 <br />Million Gallons per Day (MGD). Based on data for the years from 2005 through 2010, <br />the WWTF currently receives an annual average daily wastewater flow of 1.23 MGD. <br />The highest annual average daily flow was in 2005 and was 1.419 MGD. <br />' Table 18-1 summarizes the current residential and non-residential units served by <br />the regional sewer system within the entire City of Elk River and the estimated <br />average day and peak hour wastewater flows that are directed to the City's WWTF. <br />Table 18-1. The collection system <br />includes 191ift stations.
