Economic Development Authority Minuses <br />September 13, 2004 <br />Page 2 <br />that she and Ms. Mehelich met with representatives from the Minnesota Workforce Center <br />and discussed Superrnats' employee needs, in addition to other Elk River industrial <br />workforce issues. <br />President Gongoll stated that he felt the BRE visit was well received by Supermats and that <br />he found the facility tour to be very interesting. <br />5.1. 2004 Semi-Annual Inquiry/Prospect Report <br />Director of Economic Development Catherine Mehelich explained that staff has been using <br />new software to track inquires and prospects. She reviewed the Tracking Report that was <br />distributed to the Commission in their packet, dated September 13, 2004. She explained that <br />the Tracking Report indicates trends over the past 3 years in inquiry type, size and status. <br />Ms. Mehelich noted that a new category, Commercial-Service, has been included in the <br />Tracking Report. She reported that the number of light industrial inquiries received in the <br />past 6 months total the annual amount of inquiries the past three yeazs. She explained that if <br />the Commission is interested in attracting distribution/warehouse clients, the City must <br />begin identifying large tracts of land suitable for this type of use, since there currently are no <br />sites appropriately zoned for this use in the City. <br />President Gongoll asked how the data is formatted and analyzed. Ms. Mehelich explained <br />that data is analyzed by staff, and that the format was created by staff to better differentiate <br />the types of inquiries received but that often staff doesn't receive enough details from <br />prospects that like to keep confidential. President Gongoll asked if staff had a breakdown <br />for how many Commercial inquires were for office space and how marry were for <br />restaurants. Ms. Mehelich stated that they receive few inquiaes for office space. <br />Commissioner Klinzrng asked for clazification on the dates shown on the 2001-2004 <br />Industrial Client Status. Ms. Mehelich stated that the date in pazentheses indicates the year <br />the inquiry was first received. <br />Staff responded to questions from the Commission regarding the status of several contacts <br />listed in the Notes/History section of the report. <br />6. Semi-Annual Business Incubator Report <br />Harlan Jacobs of Genesis Business Centers presented a video sent by Anders Lindberg of <br />Mora, Sweden explaining why he wishes to locate his company, ScandTrace, in North <br />America. He explained that ScandTrace has developed meat-tracking software to document <br />the chain of custody for beef production. Mr. Jacobs explained that Mr. Anders will be <br />visiting the azea next month. He felt that Rob Henningsgazd of LapTwo would be the best <br />person for Mr. Lindberg to work with on this venture. <br />Mr. Jacobs introduced Jerry Pettersson, an inventor from Uppsala, Sweden. Mr. Pettersson <br />provided background of several companies he has founded. Mr. Jacobs stated that <br />ScandTrace would be an asset to the Business Incubator. <br />Consider Business Incubator Tenant Lease Extension -LapTwo Technology <br />Ms. Steinmetz explained that LapTwo Technology Corporation is requesting aone-yeaz <br />extension of its sublease in the Business Incubator. She reviewed the details of the <br />extension. <br />
