Strategic Industrial Maxkenng Activities Update <br />Director oEEconomic Development Catherine Mehelich presented the strategic industrial <br />marketing activities update. <br />6.1. Industrial Land Development <br />Cadiexine Mehelich noted that staff has scheduled a work session of the Planning <br />Commission to discuss industrial development and client requirements. The meeting is' <br />proposed to be facilitated by Duckox & Associates as stated in the Strategic Industrial <br />Maxkedng Plan and included in the 2003 EDA budget. Catherine stated that the work <br />session is• scheduled fox February 11°h at 6:30 p.m. She requested the EDA to call a special <br />meeting to attend the joint work session. <br />COMMISSIONER DWYER MOVED TO CALL A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE <br />EDA FOR FEBRUARY 11, 2002, AT 6:30 P.M. TO ATTEND THE PLANNING <br />COMMISSION WORK SESSION REGARDING INDUSTRIAL <br />DEVELOPMENT. COMMISSIONER KUESTER SECONDED THE MOTION. <br />THE MOTION CARRIED 6-0. <br />5. Comprehensive Plan Update <br />President Gongoll reviewed issues that were discussed at the last comprehensive plan task <br />force meeting. He indicated that discussion took place regarding the property that could <br />potentially be future industrial development areas. <br />5.1. Industrial Land in Comprehensive Plan <br />Director of Planning Michele McPherson addressed [he EDA on the topic of the Eutuxe <br />industrial land sites for the Comprehensive Plan. Michele referred to a memo from Rusty <br />Fifield of Hoisington Koegler Group Inc., which provided information on future land use <br />and development scenarios. Michele asked the EDA to look at other areas for potential <br />industrial development that have not been considered. She talked about vacant land along <br />the Highway 10 corridor area behind Back to the Fifties, which is currently guided for <br />highway commercial but could have the potential to be industrial. <br />Jeff noted that much discussion at the last EDA meeting revolved around the gravel pits <br />with a general consensus that the area south of Countv Road 33 is a good area for industrial <br />land. He noted that there was also discussion on parks, oak trees, and the need to buffer the <br />residential property from the south. <br />Commissioner Dwvex noted that those present at the last Comprehensive Plan Task Force <br />meeting talked about this being the last chance to rezone property for business park/light <br />industrial land use and that the land use plan will set the direction of the property along the <br />Highway 10 and 16) corridors. He Eurthex noted that if the Citv zones land into residential <br />that should be zoned light industrial; there will be no other land to replace it. <br />Commissioner Dwyer indicated that discussion at the Comprehensive Plan meeting also <br />took place regarding areas in east Elk River, north and south of Highway 10.
