Park & Recreation Commission Minutes <br />blay 11, 2011 <br />Page 2 <br />Mr. Benoit reported that staff has been busy putting the final touches on summer <br />programming. The summer season offers the largest amount of programming such <br />as sports camps, Summer Playground Adventure, adult and youth sport leagues and <br />weekly concerts at River's Edge Commons Park. <br />Mr. Benoit shared that the City of Otsego has approached the City of Elk River to <br />discuss and explore the concept of working with the City in delivering recreational <br />programs to Otsego residents. Staff will be meeting with the Otsego Parks and <br />Recreation Commission to determine what recreational programming they feel <br />would positively serve their community. <br />Mx. Benoit stated that the hiring of the Parks and Recreation Director position is in <br />process. <br />Mr. Benoit shared that before the rental policy revisions can be completed from the <br />April Commission meeting staff will be meeting with the Lions Club to discuss what <br />constitutes a Lions Club function as this question has been raised several times and <br />as part of the policy the Lions Club can utilize Lions Park Center at a reduced rate. <br />Mayor Dietz stated that due to the last Parks and Recreation Director candidate <br />fuming down the offer the City Council has decided to xepost the position. <br />Mayor Dietz expressed excitement in the idea of working with the City of Otsego. <br />He noted that the City Council does not want to lessen current city services to Elk <br />River residents and believes it will be a great collaborative effort. <br />Information/Update Items <br />7.1. Community Events <br />Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit showcased the Pinewood Golf Course clubhouse <br />upgrades that were completed by both staff and volunteers. <br />7.2. Park/Program Highliehts <br />Planner/Park Planner, Chris Leesebexg shared that the Pinewood Open will be on <br />June 23rd and that this year's 14`h Annual Ice Show, "I'hcatre on Ice" will be on May <br />20`" and 21". <br />8. City Council/Planning Commission Review/Updates -None <br />Other Business <br />9.1. River's Edge Commons Park Splash Pad Operation Dates <br />Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit discussed the operation dates of the River's Edge <br />Commons Park Splash Pad. Staff recommends the splash pad to be open from <br />Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend. <br />
