Staff was directed to evaluate the
structure and staffing of the street division to determine the exact needs and bring that information back
to the City Council at a future worksession.
Staff presented this information at the July 11, 2011 worksession. The City Council agreed to the hiring
of a laborer and directed staff to come back with a request to begin the hiring process at the next City
Council meeting.
FINANCIAL IMPACT
The 2011 savings from the street superintendent's phased retirement is $54,500. A small amount of that,
no more than $2,080, has been approved to be allocated to additional pay when a street maintenance
operator II is assigned to the lead position.
The 2011 cost for a labor beginning August 1 at step A would be approximately $16,800. For reference,
at top pay for that position, the cost for 2011 would be $22,400. The estimated costs for this position for
a full year in 2012 could range from $42,500 (step A) to $55,800 (top). While we wouldn't consider hiring
someone at the top step for this position, these numbers are included for your reference.
ATTACHMENTS
None
Action Motion by Second by Vote
Follow Up
