Park & Recreation Commission Minutes DRAFT Page 2 May 11, 2011 ------------------------------------ Mr. Benoit repotted that staff has been busy putting the final touches on summer programming. The summer season offers the largest amount of programming such as sports camps, Summer Playground Adventure, adult and youth sport leagues and weekly concerts at River's Edge Commons Park. Mr. Benoit shared that the City of Otsego has approached the City of Elk River to discuss and explore the concept of working with the City in delivering recreational programs to Otsego residents. Staff will be meeting with the Otsego Parks and Recreation Commission to determine what recreational programming they feel would positively serve their community. Mr. Benoit stated that the hiring of the Parks and Recreation Director position is in process. Mr. Benoit shared that before the rental policy revisions can be completed from the April Commission meeting staff will be meeting with the Lions Club to discuss what constitutes a Lions Club function as this question has been raised several times and as part of the policy the Lions Club can utilize Lions Park Center at a reduced rate. Mayor Dietz stated that due to the last Parks and Recreation Director candidate turning down the offer the City Council has decided to repost the position. Mayor Dietz expressed excitement in the idea of working with the City of Otsego. He noted that the City Council does not want to lessen current city services to Elk River residents and believes it will be a great collaborative effort. Information/Update Items 7.1. Community Events Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit showcased the Pinewood Golf Course clubhouse upgrades that were completed by both staff and volunteers. 7.2. Park/Program Highliehts Planner/Park Planner, Chris Leeseberg shared that the Pinewood Open will be on June 23`' and that this year's 14`h Annual Ice Show, "Theatre on Ice" will be on May 20`" and 21". 8. River's Edge Commons Park Splash Pad Operation Dates Recreation Manager, Steve Benoit discussed the operation dates of the River's Edge Commons Park Splash Pad. Staff recommends the splash pad to be open from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.
