Box 490 Elk River, MN 55330 Dear Mayor Duitsman: This letter is a request for the City of Elk River to consider a financial contribution to the Elk River Area Leadership Development Program, sponsored by the Chamber. As you know, the program is designed to develop future leaders for the community who are informed, qualified and motivated. During the nine month program, participants will learn about current issues and needs of our community, as well as developing their personal leadership skills to enhance contributions to organizations, boards, task forces and commissions. They also develop meaningful relationships with their peers, inspiring each other to greater involvement in community leadership roles. The curriculum of Leadership Elk River includes specific topic areas such as education, criminal justice, health care, government, and economic vitality. You may recall the City of Elk River was a contributing partner in the first leadership program in 1995-96. We are again seeking sponsorships rather than increasing registration fees so that more residents will have the opportunity to participate in the program. To that end, we are requesting $1,000 for 1997-98. This amount will help us keep the costs associated with registering for the program at a reasonable and modest fee. I hope you will consider this proposal, as I believe that the program can and will benefit the City. Having citizens better informed on the whole "Elk River perspective" can do nothing but assist in making our community a better place to live, work, play and do business! Sincerely, Jackie F.
