'ity of

iver

**ITEM 3.7.**

MEMORANDUM

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor & City Council

Darrell Mack, WWTS Superintenden~/~

June 30, 1997

Full Time WWTS Operator

I would like to request of the City Council the authorization to advertise for a
full time WWTS Operator. This position replaces the temporary positions
requested and authorized in April of 1997. One position was never accepted
and the other temporary employee has taken a full time position with a city
closer to his home. I have contacted the school in search of temporary
employees, resulting in a lack of interest for temporary work. Therefore, I
would request that the WWTS Operator position be full time permanent
rather than temporary.

In addition, taking into consideration that a Class D license (at minimum)
will be required and the scarcity of potential employees in the job market, we
may have to offer one or two pay steps above our minimum in order to be
more competitive with the starting pay offered by other cities. We could
possibly get Class C or B license holders applying, requiring an even higher
starting pay. The pay range for WWTS Operators is Pay Grade 8, Steps F
through L. As there are four steps in the Class D range, an employee could
be hired in at any one of those steps, depending on qualifications.

\\elkriver\sys\shr doc\council\ww tsftem.doc

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
