ZUN 13 'g? 12:86 FR GOFF & HOWARD 612 224 8?58 TO 4417425 P.02 <br /> <br />A Commuter Rail Demonstration <br />July 1, 2 and 3, 1997 <br /> <br />MEDIA ALERT <br /> <br />WHAT: <br /> <br />Come Aboard Minnesota <br /> <br />The future of transportation is coming to Minnesota July 1, 2 and 3 when <br />a commuter rail. train makes demonstration runs between St. Cloud, <br />Minneapolis, Saint Paul, mad Hastings. <br /> <br />The Twin Cities is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United <br />States without passenger rail transit. Minnesota faces the 'mounting <br />challenges of increasingly congested highways and urban sprawl. <br />Officials in Minnesota are exploring commuter rail transit as a solution. <br /> <br />Although the details of the three-day demonstration event are still being <br />finalized, there will be plenty of room on the inaugural demonstration mn <br />for reporters, editors and photographers to experience firsthand the future <br />of transportation in Minnesota. <br /> <br />Transportation leaders and other federal, state, county and city officials <br />will be available for interviews. <br /> <br />WHO: <br /> <br />WHERE: <br /> <br />Members of Congress, state legislators, county ,and city officials, business <br />leaders, commuters, and many others are expected to take this ride toward <br />the future. The demonstration event is sponsored by the regional railroad <br />authorities of Anoka, Hennepin, Ramsey and Washington Counties. <br /> <br />The Flexliner train will be making a number of runs throughout the <br />region, including trips between St. Cloud and Hastings, and trips between <br />Minneapolis ,'md Osseo. <br /> <br />WHEN: <br /> <br />The demonstration event takes place July I, 2 and 3. <br /> <br />The inaugural demonstration run, which has been specially structured for <br />media and government representatives, takes place at 8:30 a.m. on <br />Tuesday, July 1 in Anoka County.
