COMMUNITY PLA YGR 0 UND PR OJECT <br />PRESENTED B Y THE <br />PARENTS OF HANDKE ELEMENTARY <br /> <br />L History of the Handke Community Playground <br />· The 1995-96 schoolyear, Handke Elementary dropped from a full elementary (700 <br /> students) to a 300 student elementary with Jr. High and ECFE/ECSE. <br />· The playground was reduced in size to accommodateparking needs for Jr. High and <br /> E C FE/E CS E. <br /> <br />A playgroundproposal. <br /> Parents identified the need for a larger playground based on student complaints, <br /> slivers and other problems on the playground (drainage problems). The student <br /> council members identified this as the primary need of the students. Proposal ,vas <br /> made and approved at the Handke Magnet Management Council to raise money for a <br /> new playground <br /> <br />IIL Money currently raised by students, parents and staff for the project. <br />· Handke Parent Group donated $2500 "seed" money. <br />· Pop can recycling program (every Fri.) earned about $164 (Jan-June) <br />· AM sales to students (cereal/juice) earned about $750 (Jan-June) <br />· Parent/staff donations: $400 (Jan-June) <br />· Paper drive: $230. <br />· Carnival Drawing $580. <br />· Magazine Sales $1200. <br />· To date, our students, parents and staff have earned about $58001 <br /> <br />IV. Donations or commffments made for the project <br />· LS.D. 728. SchoolBoard- $3,000 <br />· Early Chihlhood Family Education - $5,000 <br /> <br />V. Money needed for the project - $30,000+ <br />· Contract is with Earl F. Anderson, Inc. <br />· E.C.F.E. and Handke students will be involved in some of the designing. <br />· Emphasis on COMMUNITYplayground--we are hoping that local businesses and <br /> community organizations will help us with labor, equipment, etc. in tearing down and <br /> building it <br />· Plannedpresentations include: City of Elk River, American Legion, Power <br /> Companies and other organizations. <br /> <br /> <br />
