~ty of

MEMORANDUM

Item# 6.1.

TO:

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor & City Council

Pat Klaers, City Administrator

June 16, 1997

Part Time Help for Street/Park Dept.

Street/Park Superintendent Phil Hals is requesting the City Council approve
the hiring of some part time employees. A memo from Phil on his request is
attached. The Park Ranger position will need to be financed out of the City
Council Contingency Fund and is one of the employee seasonal positions that
the Council discussed last year prior to the adoption of the 1997 budget. At
this time we are looking to see if any police reserves are interested in this
position. Most likely we would be looking for two employees as I don't think
anyone is going to be interested in working every weekend during the
summer. We would like the Council to establish this position and then we
will advise the Council as to the individuals that are being selected to fill the
positions. Hopefully we can have the Park Ranger position start next week.
The purpose of the Ranger is to ensure that shelter clean up is taking place,
that reservations are being honored, and, in general, to have a presence in
the parks during the weekend afternoons.

The seasonal 40 hour week employee and the part time employee can both be
financed within the parks budget. Phil will be advertising for the 40 hour
week seasonal employee as soon as the City Council approves this position.

\\elkriver\sys\shrdoc\council\prkempl.doc

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
