BACKGROUND: <br /> <br />The Elk River Heritage Festival organization was organized in 1995 in an effort to promote the 150th <br />anniversary of the founding of the trading post by David Faribault in 1846, that became the city of <br />Elk River. The celebration occurred in 1996. <br /> <br />Early on, it wn~ decided that the celebration should continue and plans were established to continue <br />the event into the next century.
