From: Gary Brown, P.E. [mailto:gbrown@pineng.com]
Sent: Friday, September 24, 2010 9:41 AM
To: jimprossman@gmail.com
I would point out that technology has changed dramatically in the last few years that would
enable a contractor to locate and remove obstructions or to at least be able to mark these
passible rock outcroppings so that boaters would feel safe to use the river as they do on Lake
Minnetonka (look at how that impacts our economy}. Why hasn't the DNR used the funds that
they are currently receiving from the recently approved tax, to at least prepare a feasibility
study of providing navigation to this stretch of the river? Usually that is the process, first a study
(a study to determine whether or not it is possible and also to determine cost} and then get the
monies either appropriated or identified as a project with the new tax revenue as the funding. I
would think that the state would be looking for a project that would provide more people an
opportunity to enjoy their natural resource {Mississippi River) and to provide businesses along
the way to benefit by increased boat traffic {restaurants, fueling facilities, boat and jet ski sales,
etc}.
Gary Brown, P.E., Sr. Project Engineer
Pinnacle Engineering, Inc.
1154195th Avenue North, Minneapolis, MN 55369
763-277-8434 (direct) ~ 763-464-1549 {mobile) ~ 763-315-4501 (fax) ~ gbrown@pineng.com
Visit www.pinen~.com -Environmental,lndustrial and Renewable Energy
The information contained in this E-mail is privileged and confidential and intended for the use of the addressee(s). The local news paper,
Star I~'ews of Elk River called me this week and said that they wanted to inter~~iew me about how to use
the river in order to stimulate the econo>ny. They said that they were going to start interviewing the
MN State legislator candidates and they wanted to know what question they should ask them about the
idea of making the river more user friendly for small boat traffic. This is exciting forme as I started
presentations, letter writing and documenting facts on why this plan might work as of last November.
It looks like I might be making some headway. I also e-mailed Lyle Glemenson about the information
he has from the old t•Vendell Anderson days and the channel up to the Coon Rapids Dam.
Gary if you have any input or ideas on questions that the News paper reporter should be
asking Legislators and potential Legislators about my proposal please let me know what
they might be?
