REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ma or and Ci Council 5.3. <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br />Administration December 6, 2010 Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br />Police Chief Appointment and Oath of Office <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />•Appoint Brad Rolfe Police Chief effective immediately at pay grade 16 step D with a step increase in <br />one year based on satisfactory performance. <br />•Approve the pay increase retroactive to his appointment as interim Police Chief. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />Following interviews of two outstanding applicants by Councilmember Nick Zerwas, Sheriff Joel Brott, <br />and me, we were faced with the difficult task of choosing between two people who were both clearly <br />capable of leading the department with excellence and professionalism. After much consideration, we are <br />recommending that Captain Brad Rolfe be promoted to Police Chief. <br />Mr. Rolfe has 29 years of experience on the police department, almost all of that time serving as a <br />member of the management team. Currently Mr. Rolfe serves as patrol captain in charge of the patrol <br />division and as the acting chief in the absence of the chief. He has been instrumental in leading the <br />department, selecting staff, and developing new initiatives such as the SWAT team and Honor Guard. <br />Mr. Rolfe has received numerous letters of recognition and commendation and has received many <br />department awards. <br />Following action to promote Captain Rolfe to Police Chief Rolfe, a swearing in will be held.
