REQUEST FOR ACTION <br />TO ITEM NUMBER <br />Ci Council 5.1.A. <br />AGENDA SECTION MEETING DATE PREPARED BY <br />Administration December 6, 2010 Brad Rolfe, Police Ca twin <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION REVIEWED By <br />Recognize Retirement of Police Chief Jeff Beahen Lori ohnson, Ci Administrator <br /> REVIEWED BY <br />ACTION REQUESTED <br />Mayor Klinzing is asked to read and present a plaque to Police Chief Jeff Beahen. <br />BACKGROUND/DISCUSSION <br />Various staff will be at the Council meeting to discuss Jeff s service to the city. <br />Jeff Beahen retired as Chief of Police of the Elk River Police Department on November 28, 2010. <br />He began his career with the Elk River Police Department on May 12, 1980 when he was hired as a <br />Police Officer. Jeff was promoted to Corporal in 1981 and Sergeant in 1982. Jeff left the police <br />department in 1985 to take a position with the Anoka Police Department. Jeff spent thirteen years at <br />Anoka PD, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant. He returned to the Elk River Police Department <br />March 3, 1998 when the position of Assistant Chief of Police was created, making him second in <br />command of the police department. On Apri130, 2003 Jeff was promoted to Chief of Police upon the <br />retirement of Chief Tom Zerwas. <br />Throughout his career Chief Beahen has been an innovator in law enforcement leadership, training and <br />technology. He supervised the planning and construction of the state of the art public safety building. <br />He was a leader and driving force in the implementation of paperless, web based records management <br />technology. He has received recognition from local, state, national, and international organizations for <br />his innovation and leadership. Jeff has served as a member and leader of numerous professional and <br />service organizations. During his career at the Elk River Police Department, Chief Beahen has received <br />the Police Service Ribbon, Life Saving Award, Meritorious Service Award, Unit Citation, 15 Year Service <br />Award, Training Cadre Ribbon, and Honor Guard Ribbon. <br />Chief Jeffrey A.
