City of <br />Elk -~ <br />River <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: City Staff <br />Appointed Board and Commission Members <br />CC: Mayor and City Council <br />FROM: Lori Johnson, City Administrator <br />DATE: October 28, 2010 <br />SUBJECT: Adoption of Elk River's Vision and Goals <br />At the October 11 Council work session, the proposed Ilk River Vision and Goals developed by the <br />management team staff and Council member Westgaard in September through hvo full days of <br />discussion, study, and a lengthy evaluation were presented to the Council fox review. A copy of the <br />staff memo more Cully outlining the process and the presentation to the Council can be found on <br />the City's website under your government by searching agendas and ]ninutes tab then the City <br />Council agenda packet for the October 1 ], 2010, meeting and accessing the staff xepart for item 5.1. <br />Following discussion on October ] 1, the Council adopted the vision and goals at the October 18 <br />meeting with minor revisions to three of the four goals. The adopted vision and goals are hclow: <br />The Vision <br />Abounding in natural beauty, Elk River is a vibrant, historic river town that promotes an <br />active lifestyle in an innovative and involved community offering unlimited opportunities. <br />Goals supporting the Vision <br />• Innovation -Develop new programs and services to meet the needs of the <br />community. <br />• Community Development -Enhance community involvement and public <br />participation through a variety of innovative outlets. <br />• Beautification- Have attractive welcoming streetscapes at City entrances and <br />primary corridors.
