ITEM 4.4.

~ty of

iver

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

MEMORANDUM

Mayor & City Council

Phil Hals, Street/Park Superintendent

March 24, 1997

Outdoor Recreation Grant Program
Application

The city has the opportunity to apply for four different grant programs for
money for trail development or trail improvement. All programs have a
$50,000 grant limit and require 50 percent city matching funds. This must
be dollars and cannot be equipment or services as we have done in the past.

I have requested funds to pave 12,000 lineal feet of trail from Oak Knoll Park
to County Road 33 on the Railroad Trail on all four grant proposals. If, and
that is a big "if', we are offered two grants we can decline one.

I am requesting a City Council resolution supporting a $98,000 project with
$50,000 of park dedication funds. This by no means is a sure thing. Since
1984, I have written eleven grant applications and we have been successful
with two of them.

13065 Orono Parkway ° P.O.
