ty of <br /> <br />iver <br /> <br />ITEM 7.14. <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br /> Mayor and City Council <br /> <br /> Steve Ach, City Planner.~e_~ <br /> <br /> February 18, 1997 <br /> <br /> Consider Initiating Ordinance <br /> Amendment <br /> <br />Issue <br /> <br />The City Council is asked to consider initiating an ordinance amendment <br />amending the antenna overlay zoning district and regulations for tower <br />construction. <br /> <br />Overview <br /> <br />Approximately 5 months ago the city received its second application from a <br />telecommunications provider to construct a new tower in the City of Elk <br />River. The Planning Commission discussed this item at three separate <br />public hearings before finally making a recommendation to the City Council. <br />Throughout these public hearings the information exchanged with the <br />provider and asked for by the Planning Commission made it clear the city's <br />current ordinance could use some updating to be in step with the current <br />technologies and criteria other cities are using to manage the development of <br />telecommunication towers. <br /> <br />If the Council initiates staff to proceed with this ordinance amendment, it <br />would be presented to the Planning Commission on March 25th and then <br />forwarded to the City Council on April 21st. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />It is recommended the City Council initiate the requested ordinance <br />amendment and direct staff to begin the public hearing process to review the <br />proposed ordinance amendment. <br /> <br /> s:\councilXtelecomm.doc <br />13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
