Zerwas, Chief of Police <br /> <br />February 12, 1997 <br /> <br />PORTABLE DEFIBRILLATORS <br /> <br />Recently, representatives from Physio Control Corp. and Life Link <br />Tech., Inc. presented their products to the police department. <br />Physio Control demonstrated the operation of its LifePak 500 <br />Automated External Defibrillator (AED); and, Life Link Tech. <br />demonstrated its VivaLink AED. Although both AED's appear to be <br />highly competitive in function, options, and price, we are <br />intending to purchase the LifePak 500. The LifePak 500 offers a <br />five (5) year lithium battery, less expensive electrodes (which are <br />compatible with those used by Elk River Ambulance) and a <br />promotional extended warranty of eight (8) years. This unit is <br />very durable and simple to use. <br /> <br />The estimated total cost for three (3) complete AED's is $9,500.00 <br />(nine thousand, five hundred dollars). So far, we have received <br />approximately $5,000.00 (five thousand dollars) in donations. <br />Furthermore, Physio Control advised that it will take sixty (60) <br />days to deliver their product to us. We, therefore, anticipate <br />that we will be able to raise most of the remaining $4,500.00 (four <br />thousand, five hundred dollars) during that time. Any amount <br />unfunded would then be paid for from the sale of old police <br />vehicles later this year. <br /> <br />Although the decision was difficult and both units are very <br />comparable, I have decided to go with the LifePak 500.
