'ity of

iver

ITEM 9.

MEMORANDUM

FROM:

DATE:

SUBJECT:

Mayor & City Council

Pat Klaers, City Administrator

January 27, 1997

Joint Meeting with the County Board

Transportation Issues

The City Council and Sherburne County have discussed some specific
transportation projects for the last few years and we are anticipating
the reconstruction of some county roads in the very near future.
Additionally the city and the county have talked about their long range
transportation goals and how these goals are consistent with each
others and how these goals should be incorporated into each others
long range transportation plans.

Transportation issues are anticipated to be the major topic of
conversation at this joint meeting. The city has been looking forward
to the reconstruction of County Road I for a number of years and we
are hopeful that this project will take place in 1997. Along with this
reconstruction from County Road 77 to County Road 32, we are also
very concerned about the reconfiguration and improvements at the
County Road 1 and Highway 10 intersection. We need to have the
county seriously pursue this project and I do not know if anything can
be completed in 1997.

County Road 12 and the County Road 12/13 intersection are also very
important improvements that, at this time, seem to need some
planning work in 1997 in order to be accomplished in 1998. This
project leads us into the discussion on jurisdiction within the city and
whether or not the jurisdiction of some county roads and city streets
should be changed in the future.

Please see the attached background information on both the County
Road I and the County Road 12 projects. The City Council may need
to press the issue with the county in order to get some definite answers
as to the timetable for the County Road I project and the County Road
1/Highway 10 project.

13065 Orono Parkway · P.O.
