PROCLAMATION <br />PROCLAIMING JUNE 21, 2010 TO BE <br />ELK RIVER ROTARY DAY <br />Whereas: Rotary International, founded in 1905 in Chicago, Illinois, is the world's first and one of the largest <br />non-profit service organizations with 1.2 million members. <br />Whereas: the Rotary motto "Service Above Se1P' inspires members to provide humanitarian service, <br />encourage high ethical standards, and promote good will and peace in our community and the world through <br />club projects, funding and volunteers; and <br />Whereas: the Elk River Rotary Club was chartered by Rotary International and has served the community <br />since 1960; and <br />Whereas: the Elk River Rotary raised $260,000 and restored the historic Handke Stadium; and <br />Whereas: the Elk River Rotary Club has pledged $60,000 to fund the entrance to the City of Elk River's River <br />Walk downtown; and <br />Whereas: Rotarians have for 16 years adopted the portion of the Elk River and cleaned it and its banks of <br />debris; and <br />Whereas: Rotarians funded and built a band shell in Lions Paxk; and <br />Whereas: for years the Elk River Rotary Club has sponsored a Rotary Youth Exchange program; and <br />Whereas: in honor of Les Anderson, thousands of dollars have been contributed by Elk River Rotary Club to <br />Rotary International's Polio Plus to help eradicate polio worldwide and has pledged additional funds to the <br />effort this year; and <br />Whereas: Elk River Rotary Club has honored sophomore "Students of the Month" that have been selected by <br />the District 728 faculty; and <br />Whereas: Elk River Rotary Club annually provides a Rotary scholarship to an Elk River high school student; <br />and <br />Whereas: Elk River Rotary Club sponsored a truck loaded with supplies from the community and driven by <br />Glen and Jeanette Ertel to a refugee village in El Salvador; and <br />Whereas: Elk River Rotary Club has contributed funds and supplies to strengthen services to the community <br />such as the CAER food shelf, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Boy Scouts of <br />America, the YMCA; and <br />Whereas: this month the Elk River Rotary Club is celebrating its 50~ anniversary. <br />Now, Therefore, Be It Resolved, on behalf of the City Council, that we hereby proclaim June 21, 2010 as Elk <br />River Rotary Day and encourage all citizens to join me in recognizing the Elk River Rotary Club and its 50 <br />years of service to the community and to the world. <br />Stephanie Klinzing, Mayor <br />City of Elk River <br />
