Economic Development Authority Mmutes <br />April 12, 2010 <br />Page 3 <br />noted that the Committee wants the event to be uniquely different from the event held in <br />previous years. <br />Mr. Boyle asked if the EDA would consider donating the $6,000 included in their budget <br />that had been donated to the Chamber of Commerce in the past for fireworks. He indicated <br />that the committee will conduct fundraising but this moneywould give the campaign a head <br />star. <br />Commssioner Zeraas questioned who is managing the donations received. Mr. Bo}ale <br />indicated that the Amencan Legion has agreed to be the committee's fiscal manager handling <br />all funds for this event. <br />President Touchette questioned the benefit of this event for businesses. He expressed <br />concern over this event not stimulating economic development. <br />Mr. Boyle explained this is a community event that will celebrate Elk River. <br />Steve Rohlf, Committee member, indicated this is funding the EDA has in its budget. He <br />explained the benefit to the businesses is a sense of community creating a better place to live <br />and a better place to do business. He stated that the benefit the EDA saw in the Chamber <br />event is still present. <br />Commissioner Klinzing thanked the committee for putting an event together and carrying <br />on the tradition of fireworks on the Fourth of July. She indicated the event will benefit <br />businesses. <br />Commissioner Dwyer commented that the EDA has provided funding for the Foutth of <br />July fireworks for as long as he has been on the EDA. <br />Ms. Mehelich noted that state starute allows the EDA to provide funding for community <br />events. <br />MOVED BY COMMISSIONER ZERWAS AND SECONDED BY <br />COMMISSIONER KLINZING TO APPROVE $6,000 FUNDING FROM THE <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY BUDGET TO THE AMERICAN <br />LEGION SERVING AS THE FISCAL MANAGER FOR THE ELK RIVER <br />INDEPENDENCE DAY 2010 COMMITTEE FOR FIREWORKS. MOTION <br />CARRIED 7-0. <br />10. Other Business <br />Ms. Mehelich distributed and reviewed an Executive Director's Report. <br />11. Ad ournment <br />There being no other business, President Dwyer adjourned the meeting of the Elk River <br />Economic Development Authority at 6:13 p.m <br />Minutes prepared byJessica Miller. <br />
