11/02/95 14:53 $612 559 2202 BA LIESCH 1002 /002
B.A. LIESCH ASSOCIATES, INC. 1340015TH AVE. N, MINNEAPOLIS, MN 55441 612/559 -1423 FAX: 612/559 -2M
MEMORANDUM
TO: GARY SCBMITZ, CITY OF ELK RIVER
FROM: JOHN LICHTER, B.A. LIESCH ASSOCIATES, INC.
DATE: OCTOBER 232 1995
RE: FURTHER REVIEW OF MSDS SHEETS FROM PROPOSED BOOKS
PRINTING OPERATION
Gary, I reviewed the press wash MSDS sheet you forwarded regarding this proposed
business. The flashpoint of the press wash is listed as 105 °F, spent press wash or rags
• may be considered as hazardous waste due to the flashpoint being less than 140 °F.
Storage of this material is further regulated due to its low flashpoint point. You should
check with your Fire Chief for storage requirements. The contents of the press wash
chemical are also regulated under SARA. Spent press wash should not be placed in a
septic system or sewered, it should be containerized and shipped off -site for recycling or
disposal. I believe the business would require licensing as a hazardous waste generator
based the flashpoint and the solvents listed on the press wash MSDS.
maw : memo 1023 95 . wp / GO
