Box 490 <br />Elk River, MN 55330 <br />RE: DOWNTOWN PARKING LOT PAVING <br />Dear Mr. Klaers: <br />As you are aware, a number of questions have been raised about the quality of the paving <br />in the downtown parking lot. We have reviewed this, both internally and with Steve Ach <br />and Phil Hals of your staff. It is our belief that the integrity of the work that was done is <br />CIVIL ENGINEERING: acceptable but the aesthetics are unacceptable. We are recommending to the General <br />ENVIRONMENTAL Contractor, Barbarossa and Sons, that a method of repair would be to hold back sufficient <br />MUNICIPAL funds to seal coat the parking lot and restripe it. Then we would suggest that the City add <br />*LANNING this parking lot to the 1996 Seal Coating Program and restripe it afterwards. This will <br />SOLID WASTE allow the City to complete the landscaping work prior to seal coating. Oftentimes, <br />STRUCTURAL landscaping equipment can mar a bituminous surface. Attached is a copy of a letter that <br />SURVEYING I have sent to Barbarossa and Sons suggesting that this is the best method to address this <br />TRAFFIC problem. <br />TRANSPORTATION <br />We will keep you appraised of any comments received from the Contractor regarding this <br />ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL issue.
