•-,r ' ITEM 6. 5.
ity of MEMORANDUM
lk TO: Mayor & City Council
River
FROM: Phil Hals, Street /Park Superintendent
DATE: November 6, 1995
SUBJECT: Annual Review of Snow and Ice Control
Policy
As in the past, it is necessary for the City Council to review and adopt the
Snow and Ice Control Policy.
The basic elements of the policy remain the same as last year with six truck
routes, two sidewalk routes and one loader route.
The following changes are added to the maps for 1995/96:
• A. Joplin Street from County Road 30 to Highway 10 as a priority route.
B. Orono Parkway from City Hall to Joplin Street as a priority route.
C. Non - motorized pathways (or sidewalks)
1. Both sides of Joplin Street from County Road 30 to Highway 10.
2. Both sides of Orono Parkway from City Hall to Joplin Street.
3. One side of 183rd Avenue from Joplin Street to Sandpiper
Estates.
4. One side of Commercial Drive west of Joplin Street to end.
5. Within Country Crossings Addition.
6. Within Heritage Landing Addition.
7. Within Meadowvale Heights Addition.
8. One side of Dodge Avenue south of 189th Avenue to 600 Dodge
Avenue.
To improve service without purchasing more equipment, staff would like to
contract some of the cul -de -sac plowing. Funds to do this have been
identified in the 1996 budget. Contracting the cul -de -sac plowing will allow
the city trucks to concentrate on main line plowing. Since a truck can plow
two lane miles of street in the time it takes to plow one cul -de -sac,
• contracting will speed up our entire snow plowing schedule.
